Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician from the United States. Born October 20, 1964, she was the 49th Vice-President of the United States. Kamala Devi Harris is the first female vice president , and the highest-ranking female politician in U.S. history, as also the first African American and first Asian American vice president. A member of the Democratic Party, she has previously served as attorney general for California from 2011 to 2017, and as the state's attorney general from 2011 to 2017 and as a United States senator representing California until 2021. Harris was born in Oakland and graduated from Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law. She began her career in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office, before being recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office and then to the City Attorney of San Francisco's office. In 2003 she was elected district attorney of San Francisco. She was elected Attorney-General of California in 2010 and was reelected in 2014. Harris was the junior United States senator from California from 2017 until 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the 2nd African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. Harris was a senator and advocated for healthcare reform as well as federal cannabis de-scheduling a pathway to citizenship for immigrants without a legal status and the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons, as well as progressive tax reform. The sharp questions she asked Trump officials during Senate hearings has earned her national attention, which included the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, who was charged with sexual assault.
